1:00 am: hold backs and go backs or let go and move on?

y'know in relationships with people, family, friends etc.. well, especially for some friends, i've tried my best and gave my 100%. But if there's no avail, nothing seems to work out, then the problem does not lie with me anymore, well perhaps in the past but not now. So, i guess all i can say is, goodbye. is it? tell me about it.
